On February 12, Richard Alan (Ricky) Hall pleaded guilty to a charge of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Stevens County Superior Court. This was Mr. Hall’s third conviction for the offense. Mr. Hall is required to register as a sex offender after being convicted in 2000 of Rape of a Child in the 1st Degree and Indecent Liberties.

He was first convicted for Failure to Register in April 2010. The first offense for this crime is intended to be a warning of the possible consequences for failing to register. Mr. Hall was sentenced to 6 days in jail and 12 months of community custody.

His second conviction for Failure to Register occurred in May 2011. Mr. Hall was sentenced to serve 22 months in prison and 12 months community custody. He was released after serving about 14 months. Almost immediately, he violated the terms of community custody and was on the run from DOC officers when he was arrested for the current offense last October.

This is his third offense for Failure to Register. Judge Allen C. Nielson sentenced Mr. Hall to serve 36 months in prison to be followed by 36 months community custody supervision by the Department of Corrections. On Monday, February 11th, Michael Brad Furhman was tried on charges of Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools and Possession of Dangerous Weapons. Matt Enzler represented the State; Paul Wasson represented the Defendant.

The State called 6 witnesses. They testified about the investigation that began when the defendant was found hiding inside the property of a local business last October 19. They testified about the chase that occurred when Mr. Furhman ran into a nearby field to try and elude capture. Deputies, Border Patrol, State Patrol and Colville PD surrounded the area and searched the field which was thick with trees, high brush and weeds. After approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Fuhrman was found crouching in the field. The defendant testified on his own behalf.

On Tuesday, February 12, the Jury returned a verdict of guilty to Burglary in the Second Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Possession of Dangerous Weapons. His sentencing is scheduled for March 5, 2013.
