Valley Victory

To follow up on a previous article: I was happy to find out that the problem caused by a mistake in the zoning map in the town of Valley has been resolved and the community project there was allowed to go forward.
The sponsors of the project, Dennis and Dawn Dawson, finally received a zoning variance from the planning department for the project which allowed them to go ahead and finish the work. It is in its final completion. I am certain the community of Valley is pleased with the new addition to their village.
In recognition of the fact that there are problems with the zoning decisions and maps that were required by the Growth Management Act and which are now in place in the county, it is my understanding that the entire zoning plan for the community of Valley will be reviewed. This is a victory for common sense and for the principal that the good of the people should not be held hostage to a law. This is especially true for the GMA, a regulation which was supposedly enacted to make our lives better, but which, in fact, hinders the property rights which we all enjoy and oppresses the people. In this situation, something that people tried to do to build up their community was held up and nearly prevented by a regulation which was implemented in error. Thank goodness that common sense still exists and there was a way to correct it, even if it did take more time and cost more money.

There may be other areas in the county which are impacted by problems created by the regulations imposed by the Growth Management Act I encourage folks to contact the planning department and inquire about the means and methods available for making corrections and obtaining variances from regulations that seem to impose unreasonable restrictions. The lesson learned from the Valley experience teaches that these can be addressed.
