Betty Torres has pleaded guilty to 3 counts of Possession of Heroin. A trial on one set of these charges ended several weeks ago in a mistrial due to a problem with a juror accessing the internet while in the Jury room. Ms Torres was sentenced to 3 concurrent terms of 20+ months. The court granted the defendants request for a DOSA sentence. This is a Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative. As a result, the defendant was sentenced to 3 concurrent DOSA sentences of 12 months in prison with Department of Corrections monitoring of 12 months after her sentence. If she violates the DOSA terms, then she is immediately sent back to prison for the remaining term of her sentence (this could be an additional 8 months).

The office has filed charges against Alan D. Christensen, with a summons for him to appear on July 13, 2010. He is charged with making a False Declaration as to Qualifications as a Voter, a class C felony. The probable cause statement filed with the court states that reports of handwriting samples from several forms from Oregon Voting records were compared with forms from Stevens County voting records. The records compared were from between September 2008 and January 2010. The findings of the forensic scientist indicate that the same person “probably” signed the items in question. The charge is that Mr. Christensen voted in Klammath, Oregon on 9/22/08, and that he voted again in Stevens County on 9/30/08.

Pamela Deskins has again filed a request to be released from serving the sentence imposed on her by Judge Eaton as a result of her conviction on several charges related to animal cruelty. She has requested a furlough from custody so she can attend to financial affairs which need her attention. The state is opposed to this request. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 1:00.
